Nana Alba is a young female bat +Anima and one of the main characters. She can be obnoxiously inquisitive into other's pasts but always has her friends' best interests at heart, and despite meeting her fellow +Anima under hostile circumstances she is quickly accepted as one of the group.

Nana is a young girl with green eyes and long wheat-colored hair. Throughout the series she wears many outfits; typically dresses with some kind of floral pattern or accessory, but she will wear anything that she thinks looks cute.

She is a bat +Anima, and in her Anima form grows bat ears which enhance her hearing, and wings with which she can fly. Her Anima markings are on he upper back and are shaped like bat wings.

Personality[]

Nana is constantly trying to understand her fellow travellers and often pries into their pasts; she is somewhat of a busybody. She gets along well with her fellow +Anima, despite not always agreeing with their motives and even clashing with Husky on occasion.

Nana is a little ashamed of her bat Anima, thinking it uncouth, and wishing she had a different one. This however doesn't stop her from using it and even being thankful for it.

Nana's favorite food is freshly baked bread; to her it symbolizes being safe at home, since it is not something she can make while travelling. She also enjoys vegetable soup. [3]

Skills[]

Ultrasonic Screech[]

Her signature move and a skill obtained from her bat Anima, Nana is able to produce a soundwave capable of stunning a person. She is able to target either a single person or a larger area, however the effects are lessened when targeting more people at once. [4]

Flight[]

Using the wings she grows using her Anima, Nana is able to fly.

Enhanced Hearing[]

With the large ears from he Anima, Nana's hearing is improved. She is able to hear sounds so quiet they would otherwise be imperceptible, and locate people over large distances.

Needlework[]

Nana is practiced in knitting and sewing. She has made clothes for her friends, notably gifting them scarves out of gratitude. [5]

Nana grew up in a small house near a wooded area with her mother and father. After a harvest returned low yields her father returned home drunk. He was easily aggravated and started to assault her mother. Nana tried to stop him, but having been holding scissors she accidentally stabbed him. Her father chased her out of the house with a cleaver and into the adjacent woods. There, in fear for her life, Nana received her Anima and was able to escape into the night.

She went travelling by herself and wound up in the town of Octopus. She joined up with a local gang of orphan girls and stayed with them for a while, but believing herself to not be well liked she left to live by herself. Nana survived by using her Anima to steal from people.

Plot[]

In the tunnels of Octopus, Nana uses her ultrasonic screech on Husky and steals his pearls. After being accused of the theft, she denies it. A fight over the pearls ensues, and ends with the pearls being lost in the darkness of the tunnels. After a prompt from Delly, Nana follows Cooro, Husky and Senri, and asks to join them. Husky is against this and even chooses to leave by himself, however Nana convinces him to stay and they all start travelling together.

The four travel to various locations across Astaria before arriving in Maggie Vil where the daughter of the ruler, Magdala, takes a liking to Nana and offers the chance to stay there with her. Nana contemplates what kind of life she wants, and ultimately chooses to leave with her fellow +Anima.

She continues to travel with Cooro, Husky and Senri, making their way west. They reach Moss Mountain where Nana helps Senri to overcome his mad Anima, and continue to Sailand where Nana helps Husky to meet his mother. Afterwards they return to Astaria.

After some more travelling, they are taken to the Astarian National Research Facility by Fly Greena Aight who offers Nana the chance to be rid of her Anima and to have a normal life. Nana initially intends to go through with it, but backs out at the last moment. When Cooro disappears after giving up his Anima, Nana searches for him with the help of Husky and Senri. The four reunite and choose to settle down and live with Harden and Margaret.

Tools and Items[]

Some of Nana's items include her hat, and then she has the necklace Husky and Senri made for her which she wears around her neck. In her shoulder bag, she has a sewing kit complete with scissors, needles and thread, and also her wallet and the rose corsage she got from Rose in Volume 2.

Trivia[]

  • Natsumi Mukai stated that she gave Nana many outfits because she enjoys drawing girl's clothing.
  • Nana is the only protagonist to be given a family name (Alba).
